Welcome from the Principal's Office

Yvonne Brown is a native of the island of Jamaica, West Indies. At a tender age Mrs. Brown's parents migrated to Brooklyn, New York where she attended the Bethel Elementary School from grades 5-8. She continued her scholastic journey to Northeastern Academy and later to Clara Barton High School where she graduated as a medical secretary. Mrs. Brown furthered her education by attending the City College of New York where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education. She later attended the Adelphi University where she graduated with her Masters in Elementary Education.

Her professional life began in the public schools of New York teaching elementary and middle schools. In 1992, Mrs. Brown and her family relocated to Augusta, GA where she gained additional experience teaching elementary grades and middle school. In 1998, Mrs. Brown responded to the call to join the South Atlantic Conference as a principal teacher in Augusta, Georgia.

In 2001, Mrs. Brown joined the staff of the Decatur Adventist Junior Academy (DAJA) as Principal. For the past 8 years Mrs. Brown and her staff have worked very hard to make DAJA a school of excellence. In December 2008 Decatur Adventist Junior Academy was awarded the Adventist EDGE School of Excellence by the Southern Union Conference of Seventh-day Adventist. In March, 2009, DAJA became accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

Mrs. Brown has been happily married for the past 19 years to Ludlow. They have been blessed with two children, Aaron, 17 who is a senior at GAAA and Makayla, 13 an eight-grader, who attends DAJA.

One of Mrs. Brown's favorite texts is found in Psalm 121. "Do I look to the mountains and expect my help to come from them? No, my help comes from the Lord who made the heavens and the earth. Mrs. Brown longs for the soon coming of her Savior. Her prayer is that she will meet all of her students and co-workers in the earth made new.
